c 911, The Viking 32nd GGF Rollo and his tribe settle in what is now Normandy by the terms of the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte, founding the Duchy of Normandy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollo Rollo, was a Viking who became the first ruler of Normandy; he emerged as the outstanding personality among the Norsemen who had secured a permanent foothold on Frankish soil in the valley of the lower Seine. 33rd GGF Charles the Simple, the king of West Francia, ceded them lands between the mouth of the Seine and what is now the city of Rouen in exchange for Rollo agreeing to end his brigandage, and provide the Franks with protection against future Viking raids. Rollo is first recorded as the leader of these Viking settlers in a charter of 918… The offspring of Rollo and his followers became known as the Normans. After the Norman conquest of England and their conquest of southern Italy and Sicily over the following two centuries their descendants left behind an enduring legacy in the historical developments of Europe and the Near East.

c 919, 32nd GGF Henry the Fowler, Duke of Saxony elected German King. First king of the Ottonian Dynasty; Henry I considered the founder and first king of the medieval German State.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_the_Fowler Henry the Fowler (German: Heinrich) (876-7/2/936) was the duke of Saxony from 912 and the elected king of East Francia (Germany) from 919 until his death in 936. As the first non-Frankish king, he established the Ottonian Dynasty of kings and emperors, he is generally considered to be the founder and first king of the medieval German state. 34th GGF Liudolf, Count of Saxony is the oldest verified member of the Ottonian dynasty. He was the son of  a margrave (medieval title for the military commander assigned to maintain the defense of one of the border provinces of a kingdom -he had autonomy of action (political, strategic, tactical) greater than was accorded other lords of the realm -which increased his political strength and independence relative to the monarch. Liudolf also served as a military leader (dux) in the wars of the East Frankish king 36th g-uncle Louis the German against Norman invasions, the Polabian Slavs, and Great Moravia. He married Oda, daughter of a Frankish princeps, by marrying a Frankish nobleman’s daughter, he followed suggestions set forth by Charlemagne about ensuring the integrity of the Carolingian Empire in the aftermath of the Saxon Wars through marriage… after a pilgrimage to Rome, they founded a house of holy canonesses… their daughter Hathumoda became the monasteries first abbess. His daughter 34th g-aunt Liutgard married King Louis the Younger, second son of King Louis the German. Henry the Fowler is buried in his proprietary monastery of Brunshausen.

c 927, 34th g-uncle King Aethelstan the Glorious unites the heptarchy of the Anglo-Saxon nations of Wessex, Sussex, Essex, Kent, East Anglia, Mercia and Northumbria founding the Kingdom of England. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86thelstan#Legacy Legacy. He is now considered one of the greatest kings of the West Saxon dynasty -a statesman of international standing -”the father medieval and modern England” -laying the foundations on which his brothers and nephews would create one of the wealthiest and most advanced systems of government in Europe… He never married and had no children; he was succeeded by his half-brother, Edmund. (see, above, link to Blog Post: Descendants of Alfred 'the Great', King of Wessex.)

c 955, Battle of Lechfeld. 32nd g-uncle Otto the Great, son of Henry the Fowler, defeats the Magyars; the defining event that prevents the Hungarians from entering Central Europe. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lechfeld_(955) *https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_I,_Holy_Roman_Emperor the battle earned him a reputation as a savior of Christendom and secured his hold over the kingdom.
c 962, Otto was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope John XII in Rome (the first in nearly 40 years); he installed members of his family in the most important duchies, reducing the various dukes, who had previously been co-equals with the king, to royal subjects under his authority. He subjected the Church clergy to his personal control. (see, above, link to Blog Post: Ottonian Dynasty, 919-1024.)

c 985, Eric the Red aka Erik Thorvaldsson, exiled from Iceland, begins Scandinavian colonization of Greenland. *father of Leif Erikson aka Leif Ericson, the first known European to have discovered North America, before Christopher Columbus.

c 989, Peace and Truce of God formed; the first movement of the Catholic Church using spiritual means to limit private war, and the first movement in medieval Europe to control society through non-violent means. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peace_and_Truce_of_God was a movement in the Middle Ages led by the Catholic Church that applied spiritual sanctions to limit the violence of feuding. It began with very limited provisions in 989 due to the political and territorial upheaval in France caused by the Frankish nobility and the movement survived in some form until the 13th century… After the collapse of the Carolingian empire in the 9th century, France had degenerated into many small counties and lordships, in which local lords and knights frequently fought each other for control. The West Frankish nobility capitalized on the accession of the Carolingian throne and ushered in the Capetian dynasty and further altered French, and by extension, European medieval society… The chaos of the period is attributed to the issue of violent feuding, with the castellans and their milites working towards consolidated power and freedom from the overarching political structure of the Carolingian empire.
