The question I’m presently addressing is the death of Anne Reede (Wait) wife of George R Gray. I’ll begin with a summary of the information I have for her:

Census
1853 Residence (age 11), according to her brother John’s biographical sketch, John was 12 years old when he immigrated from Canada to Detroit, Michigan. I’m adding this ‘undocumented’ record for search purposes.
1875 Census (Territorial/State) 1849-1905

Both parents born, Scotland
1885 Census (Territorial/State) 1849-1905

1895 Census (Territorial/State) 1849-1905
Anna A. (wrong, R) Gray age 51
Born (abt) 1844, Canada
County: Dodge. Locality: Rosemount (?)
Note: This is the first time I've seen this entry: "Locality" could it mean that she was in a hospital at the time the Census was taken but her residence is in Dodge Co? She died in 1900 (5 years later) and her death location is stated as Dakota Co (see, Find A Grave). On the scanned copy of this census (P.O. Claremont) she is listed with her husband and sons. Her middle initial was transcribed wrong as an A; on the scanned copy it looks as if it could be an A; however, in (son) Geo.'s initial is distinctly an A and was transcribed as such.
"Minnesota State Census, 1895," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQDR-V9Q : accessed 7 October 2015), Anna R Gray in household of George Gray, Claremont township, Dodge, Minnesota; citing p. 1, line 1, State Library and Records Service, St.Paul; FHL microfilm 565,769.

Note: It appears, to me, that the memorial stone was added after the death of George because it includes his death date (year) 1923
The Mantorville Express newspaper clipping, 3/23/1900.
Word was received here yesterday of the death of Mrs. Geo. Grey, whose home was in Claremont, township. The funeral will be held at her late home at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

A different Anne Gray. I know this Anne Gray is not Anne R Wait married George R Gray; the reason I'm including this information is because of the question of her 'death location' being Dakota County. This Anne Gray, living in St Paul, came up in a 'Search Results'. Interesting similarities: their birth year and location is the same; marriage date is different; father's birthplace is the same; mother's birthplace is different. Although the census lists her as married (not widowed) she is 'head of household' and the husband's name is not included??? The 1900 Census for Claremont Twp, Dodge Co, MN lists George as widowed; also lists George A and Clara M.

Anne Reed Wait Gray Obituary, March 23, 1900
The people’s press (Owatonna, Steele County, Minn)
MRS. GEO. GRAY
Claremont, March 22, Special - Died, at her home in Ripley, Dodge county, Minnesota, on Monday, March 19th, 1900, Mrs. George Gray. Although Mrs. Gray had been ailing all winter, and grave fears were entertained concerning her recovery, yet her death was a shock to this community. Mrs. Annie Gray was born in Chatham, Western Ontario, Canada, Oct. 8th, 1842. At the age of 20 she went to Detroit, Mich. to make her home with an uncle. She lived there until 1867, when she was united in marriage to George Gray. That year she came with her husband to Ripley (Twp), Dodge County, Minn., where she resided until the day of her death.
Mrs. Gray was a woman of excellent qualifications, held in very high esteem by her friends and neighbors. The longer one knew her the more she was esteemed. In early life she united with the church of England in Canada and that has always remained the church of her choice. The funeral, which took place at the home on Wednesday at 11 o’clock, was very largely attended. Rev. J. F. Van Camp was the officiating clergyman. The interment took place at the Dodge Center cemetery. There is left a husband, two sons and a brother to mourn their loss.
CONCLUSION:
Thanks, again, to my collaborator, Stephen, he found Anne’s Obituary. She indeed died at home. I think the confusing information on Find A Grave about her death occurring in Dakota County could have been a different Anne Gray. I have found that Find A Grave Memorials should be taken as a resource tool not verified information unless they are backed up with sources and those sources need to be checked.
As for the 1895 Census and the “Locality” entry of Rosemount: I still don’t know where that information came from; I’m going to assume it was an error by the person who created that “record cover’ for Ancestry.com’s record. I have never seen a “locality” entry before. She could have been away from home, visiting a relative; I’m not aware of any relatives in Rosemount at this time (10/10/2015).
Marriage Date:
I’m going to go with, 11/25/1868, because it’s from an actual scanned copy of the Michigan, Marriage Records ledger.
As for George Gray being listed as a resident of Detroit, Michigan: he was probably staying with relatives at the time of their marriage. There are sources that show he was living in Dodge Co, MN (at Riverside Farm with his father, John Gray Sr) from 1866 to the time of the marriage, and, that after their marriage that is where the couple lived.
10/10/2015, Note: I’m leaving this Blog post and research in place in case someone else researching the family would come across these questions and in case I obtain new information at a later time that can be added to it. Jody Gray

Thinking the Weymouth’s may have been the relatives in Detroit that John and Anne Wait went to stay with, I did some ‘searches’ for information on the Witnesses at the wedding of George Gray and Anne Wait:
Witnesses: C. A. Weymouth and Mary A Weymouth both of Detroit
1900 Census, Detroit, Wayne, MI, Mary A, age 72
Birth: Jan 1828, Scotland
Spouse: Chas A Weymouth, m: 1853
Chas A Birth: Oct 1832, age 67 in 1900
Birthplace: Maine; also, both his parents
1910 Census, Detroit, MI , Charles and Mary A Weymouth
So, the possible connection to Scotland would be Mary; C. A. Weymouth could reasonably have been Anne’s uncle through marriage to Mary (unknown maiden name). Another possible candidate for Anne’s uncle in Detroit, MI would be the Cockburn’s in Detroit, MI, (as a brother of her mother, Euphenna).
According to Anne’s Obituary, she went to live with her uncle at age 20 (1862) until the time of her marriage (1868) so she would not have shown up in a Federal Census (1850, 1860).
Her brother, John Wait’s biographical sketch states he ‘removed’ to Detroit, MI at the age of 12 years (1853); remained there 2 yrs, then went to the northern shore of Lake Huron (engaged in fishing), remained there 5 yrs (1858). In 1862 removed to Mpls, MN.. enlisted in the military (Civil War). This doesn’t quite ‘add up’. Using the year, 1862 (verified enlistment) going back 5 yrs, would make it 1857 when he was at the northern shore of Lake Huron and 1855 when he came to Detroit, MI from Canada. Either way, it’s easy to see why he’s not found in a Census until 1870.
