This Blog post is connected to the Blog post I created on October 5, 2015: Questions, William Gray 1834-1913. I begin with the end of that Blog post as it pertains to Barbara Troup; I spotted B Troup on the 1876 Dearborn County Map... which started a conversation with my fellow Gray family collaborator, Stephen and lead to more research...
(Future Research)
Mother of William Gray - Barbara Troup: I found a B Troup, 40 acres on 1876 Dearborn County Map; in the rectangular sections located beneath the upper right hand corner where the Ford and Ruddiman and Whitsey Lots are which are farms the Gray family lived close to; in 1860, John Jr worked at the Whitsey Farm and Alexander worked at the Rudiman Farm. (John Gray Sr moved to Minnesota in 1866.)
Comments made by Stephen:
Good eye, Jody! The B. Troup is probably Barbara Troup, daughter of George Troup and Barbara Gauld. She's not the Barbara Troup you're looking for, since she was born in Dearborn around 1847. What's interesting is that the map you have here is from 1876, after the Grays had moved to Minnesota. The land owned by John Gray was in Section 12, southeast 1/4, east 1/2, where A. Horger is shown. That's one section over from the B. Troup property. I wonder if there is a connection between George Troup and Barbara Troup (the one who may be William's mother, not George's wife or daughter - or could his wife also be William's mother? You never know).
Another thing to note is that on the 1840 census, there are two males under 5 listed (John and probably Grace, since no females under 5 are listed), and two males 5-9 (William and one other). It seems John had another son, born either before or after William, who either died or moved out of the house before the 1850 census. My guess is that he was born before William, since with the marriage and move to the U.S., it's less likely that he would have been born between William and Bathia. More questions… xxx

One more thing I noticed: the 1860 Dearborn map shows "G. Throop" as the owner of the property in Section 14, northeast corner, where B. Troup is shown in 1876. That's got to be George Troup.

Looking for any information on the descendants of George TROUP, b. 3/2/1802 in Aberdeen, Scotland, m. Barbara Gauld, b. 3/1/1819 in Aberdeen as well. They immigrated to the United States and settled in Dearborn, Michigan before 1837. They had nine children. My Note: 1st child born 1837.
The children’s names other than Isabella & George’s all come from the 1850 or 1860 Census for Dearborn, Michigan. Any information on these individuals would be helpful. I am a descendant of George Dean, so I have most of his data, but you never know!

Find A Grave: My Note: matches their birth dates but does not give any location information (Scotland), which I think is odd because the names of Barbara’s parents are included (Barbara and John Gauld). The person doing the research must have been focusing on their daughter, Isabella Troup and her husband James Beveridge and their son, John D. Beveridge as they are the only other family links given in the Find A Grave memorial.
George D: 9/4/1860
Barbara Gauld D: 3/27/1899
daughter of Barbara (Sharan) and John Gauld
Other Results (Mine):
1860 Census, Dearborn, MI
George is 58, Barbara is 41 (George is 17 years older than his wife, Barbara)
1870 Census, Dearborn, MI
Barbara is 51, a widow being that George died in 1860
My Note:, George died in 1860, evidently after the census because he’s included (age 58); so the land is owned by G Troup; in 1876, the land would be owned by B Troup, his widow.
Barbara Gauld, b. 3/1/1819 in Aberdeen
My Note: according to this record she would have married George Troup in the US after her arrival
Passenger List: Barbara Gauld
Arrival: 6/11/1832
Birth: abt 1819

I’m including this ‘Result’ because I found it interesting. This Barbara Troup is 34 years old and her occupation is ‘Spinster’. Coincidentally, departed from Aberdeen, Scotland; arrived 1835.
